MORNING REFLECTION
Morning Reflection: “Now Israel loved Joseph more than any of his other sons, because he had been born to him in his old age; and he made an ornate robe for him. When his brothers saw that their father loved him more than any of them, they hated him and could not speak a kind word to him” (Gen 37:3-4).
Genesis 37:3-4 tells us that Israel loved Joseph more than any of his other sons because he had been born to him in his old age. Favoritism is a dangerous practice that can have long-term effects. In the case of Jacob and his sons, his favoritism towards Joseph caused jealousy and resentment among his other sons. This ultimately led to Joseph being sold into slavery and his brothers lying to their father about his death.
The Bible warns against favoritism in many places. James 2:9 says, “But if you show partiality, you are committing sin and are convicted by the law as transgressors.” God does not show favoritism, and as His children, we should strive to do the same. Showing favoritism can lead to division and strife. When one person is favored over another, it can create feelings of inadequacy and resentment.
As parents and leaders, we must strive to treat people equally and fairly. This means not showing favoritism. It can be challenging to do this, especially if one is royal and more talented or accomplished than the others. However, it is essential to remember that each person is unique and valuable in their own way.
Dear Lord teach us to treat people equally and fairly. Let there be healing and restoration where we have caused strife because our favoritism. Praying for a fruitful week ahead.
Edward and Peace.
